Kappa Epsilon Chapter History 1994-1999
September 14, 1994 The interest meeting given by Gabe Stone sparked the
interest on campus for a Shenandoah Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi.
October 3, 1994 The Pre-Colony members decided to use Greco-Roman wrestling
to decide officers of the Chapter. The results were:
* President- Gabe Stone
* Vice-President- Keith Cottril
* Treasurer- Robert Sperling
* Public Relations Secretary- Joel Lemon
* Recording Secretary- Craig Keaton
October 1994 The Pre-Colony members played wall-ball on the side of Goodson
Chapel before all of their meetings.
October/November 1994 Pre-Colony members appeared at Shenandoah Coffee Houses
as the "Kappa Quartet".
November 1994 Shenandoah University became a Colony of Kappa Kappa Psi.
November 1994 The Colony did a service/fundraiser of raking leaves for
donations.
November 1994 Northeast District Vice-President, Joy Bast, visits the Colony.
December 1, 1994 The creation of the Doo-Wop version of the Kappa Kappa Psi
song.
December 16, 1994 Shenandoah Colony has their first degree.
January-March 1995 Shenandoah Colony failed in an attempt to establish an
intercollegiate band.
February 18, 1995 Precincts is held at our Big Brother Chapter, West Virginia
University.
February 21, 1995 Robert Sperling leaves the colony,Chris Fairchild takes
over as the treasurer.
March 30, 1995 Doug Knight visits the Colony.
April 1995 The Colony makes T-shirts as a fundraiser.
1995-1996
July 1995 The T-shirt sale continues during Shenandoah's Summer Band camp.
July 29-August 5, 1995 Matthew Stuempfle goes to the National Convention of
Kappa Kappa Psi.
September 1995 The Colony does yardwork as another service/fundraiser.
September 16, 1995 The Colony travels to Cumberland, Maryland to meet Omicron
at Denny's.
October 7, 1995 A pivotal meeting in KE history, during the time of the
Colony. At this meeting the Colony came very close to disbanding, but instead
turned it around and became stronger.
October-December, 1995 The Colony decided to have some meetings off-campus.
They held meetings at McDonald's and Anthony's.
October 10, 1995 The Colony met at the Ground Round to set up social events.
October 20, 1995 Chris Fairchild has a World Series Party that met with
resounding success.
October 24, 1995 The first election of officers of the colony.

October 31, 1995 The induction ceremony for the officers.
November 1995 The Colony began going through their membership education
program.
November 6, 1995 The Colony does yard work as a service/fundraiser for the
community, most notably, Dr. James Kriewald.
November 8-10, 1995 For a fundraiser the Colony bought some candy and put it
in a jar. They then charged a small amount for each guess of how many pieces
were in the jar. The person who had the closest guess won the jar.
November 26, 1995 The Colony went through Third Degree and Kappa Epsilon was
born.
January 23, 1996 The interest meeting for membership of Kappa Kappa Psi was
held in the Wilkins Student Center Conference Room.
January 30, 1996 The first membership education class for Alpha Class was
held.
February 6, 1996 The second membership education class was held.
February 8, 1996 The Alpha Class sorted music for the instrumental library as
their service project.
February 11, 1996 Sunday Evening at 9pm, the legend began. The first ever
Kappa Kappa Psi Hot Dog Sale!
February 13, 1996 Alpha Class has their third membership class and then goes
through First Degree.
February 17, 1996 Precincts.
February 20, 1996 Alpha Class has their fourth membership education class.
February 23, 1996 Alpha Class goes through Second Degree. Afterwards the
Brothers and the Initiates went to Pargo's for a celebration.
February 25, 1996 The Alpha Class comes up with the idea of selling Soft
Pretzels in the KKPsi Hotdog Sale and participates in the sale along with the
Brothers.
February 27, 1996 Alpha Class has their final exam. Afterwards, the Alpha
Class went to Jeremy Fairchild's room to watch a movie.
March 2, 1996 Alpha Class takes a trip to the Tea Room.
March 17, 1996 Most of the Alpha Class takes a trip to see Darrell Pearman
perform in the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
March 21, 1996 Alpha Class has their Third Degree and are initiated into the
Brotherhood.

April 16, 1996 Kappa Epsilon has their second election of Officers.

1996-1997
September 3, 1996 The first meeting of the 96/97 school year is held.
September 18-27, 1996 KE has another Candy Guess for fundraiser.
September 22, 1996 KE holds their first Hot Dog Sale of the year.
September 23, 1996 Kappa Epsilon participates in a Performance Forum with the
sisters of Sigma Alpha Iota.
September 24, 1996 Brian Parker, National Field Representative of KKPsi,
meets with KE.
September 28, 1996 Darrell Pearman has a party at his apartment for the
Brothers.
September 29, 1996 KE holds another Hot Dog Sale.
September 30, 1996 KE sponsors the annual Band Picnic.
October 6, 1996 KE Holds another Hot Dog Sale, this sale does very poorly.
October 20, 1996 KE has their first retreat, and goes to Dr. Scott Nelson's
house in Bryce, VA.
October 22, 1996 KE decided to make Dr. David Zerull, conductor of Shenandoah
University Concert Winds, and honorary member of KKPsi.
October 29, 1996 The Mission Statement drafted by the Ad Hoc Committee for
the Mission (chaired by Matthew Stuempfle) is adopted. The Ad Hoc Committee
for the History is created (chaired by the Historian Jeremy Fairchild). Also
KKPsi bought a Jingling Johnny for SU.
November 7, 1996 As a social event, four Brothers went bowling.
November 10, 1996 KE has yet another Hot Dog Sale, which also does poorly.
November 14, 1996 The Founding Father and Alpha Class membership paddles
arrived.
November 15, 1996 Dr. David Zerull is initiated as the first honorary member
of the Kappa Epsilon chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi.
December 2, 1996 All of the members of KE marched in the Winchester Christmas
Parade. (Jeremy Fairchild was not in attendance due to the fact that he was
attending another parade with the school where he was student teaching.)
December 3, 1996 KE holds the interest meeting for the Beta membership class.
December 7, 1996 Brothers of KE take a trip to Tyson's Corner as a social
event.
January 10, 1997 Most of the Brothers of KE have dinner at Terry
Strawsnyder's house and the legend of Oral-B is born. Also three Brothers
Robert Sperling, Joel Lemon, and Jeremy Fairchild went on a near fatal ski
trip.
January 17, 1997 Matthew Stuempfle holds Blow'em Up Movie night for the
Brothers.
February 12, 1997 Due to the exhaustive work by Matthew Stuempfle, the KKPsi
KE internet website went on-line.
February 13, 1997 Beta Class goes through Second Degree at 9pm in Shingleton.
February 14-15, 1997 Gabe Stone, Robert Sperling, and Jason Fields attend
Precincts at Towson State University (Iota Delta), and have an excellent
one-on-one with the District Officers.
March 2 ,1997 Another Hot Dog Sale is held, this time with great success.
March 6 ,1997 Brothers Jeremy Fairchild, Chris Fairchild, Brian McCurdy and
Darrell Pearman go to the Northeast District Convention at West Virginia
University.
March 7, 1997 Brothers Robert Sperling, Gabe Stone, Eric Smith, and Initiates
Pamela Crawford, Danelle Brallier, and Gloria Shaw arrive at the District
Convention.
March 8, 1997 The Brothers and Initiates leave the convention after the
banquet.
March 20, 1997 Beta Membership Class has third Degree and new brothers

March 21, 1997 Kappa Espilon welcomes its second honorary member into the
order, composer Stephen Melillo.
April 10 1997 the brothers of Kappa Epsilon once again venture to Bryce
Resort in Virginia for a "smoker" at Dr. Nelson's vacation home. An
afternoon of golf, barbequed chicken, cigars, movies, and capture the flag is
enjoyed by most of the brothers.

September 20, 1997 KKPsi and guests from Wind Ensemble play the National
Anthem at the Homecoming soccer game.
September 22, 1997 Fraternity Performance Forum
September 23, 1997 Began the "Buddy System"; drew names to be
buddies for a week
October 2, 1997 First "Thursday Bowling"
October 6, 1997 KKY KE Banner hung in Armstrong Auditorium for Wind Ensemble
and Concert Winds rehearsals
October 8, 1997 Adopt-a-Highway; KE adopted the Denny's on and off ramp
October 10, 1997 Slumber Party at the Kappa Krib (Rob, Joel, and Jason's
place)
October 31, 1997 Halloween Party at Gabe's house
November 4, 1997 Formal Meeting
November 11, 1997 Rush for Gamma Class
November 23, 1997 The Resurrection of the great HOT DOG SALE!

October 22, 1998 Death of one of the KE brothers: Cary Floyd, Beta class
October 24, 1998 Cary’s Funeral in Buena Vista; Wind Ensemble Concert
dedicated to Cary; The podium was also dedicated to Cary.
October 28, 1998 Memorial Service in Goodson Chapel for Cary. Many KKY
brothers participated. KKY brothers from other schools also came.
October 31, 1998 Halloween Party at Matt Brodt’s house
November 4-11, 1998 "LITTLE WEEK"
November 6-7, 1998 Smoker at Doc’s
November 7, 1998 KE’s visit to Eta Omicron (JMU)
November 11, 1998 First degree for the Delta Class; The new KKY flag was
presented by Gamma Erin Heintzinger; After First Degree, we all partied at
